About Luke V Selby

Luke V. Selby, MD, MS, is a surgical oncologist at The University of Kansas Cancer Center. His clinical interests include cutaneous malignancies (melanoma, Merkel cell carcinoma, basal cell carcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma), soft tissue sarcoma, peritoneal surface malignancies and gastrointestinal cancers. He is actively involved in research into the genetics behind cancer development and how surgical stress affects the body’s ability to detect and fight cancer.

Dr. Selby is also an assistant professor of surgery in the colorectal and oncologic surgery division at the University of Kansas Medical Center. He was born and raised in New York City. He attended Bates College in Lewiston, Maine, for his undergraduate studies, where he met his wife, Sarah T. Selby, DO, FACEP. She is an emergency medicine physician at The University of Kansas Health System and an associate professor of emergency medicine at the medical center. Dr. Luke Selby received his medical degree from New York Medical College and graduated from a general surgery residency at the University of Colorado. Following residency, he completed his complex general surgical oncology fellowship at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center and James Cancer Hospital before joining the medical center faculty. A dedicated surgical educator, Dr. Selby received teaching awards at the University of Colorado and The Ohio State University.

When he is not teaching or caring for patients, Dr. Selby is spending time with his wife and their two children, Andrew and Jackson. His hobbies include long-distance running and cycling, woodworking and improving his BBQ skills.
