Nausheen Ahmed, MD

Dr. Nausheen Ahmed is a hematologist-oncologist at The University of Kansas Cancer Center. Her primary focus is on providing compassionate and expert care to patients with blood cancers, including lymphoma and myeloma.

She became a hematologist because she was fascinated by the complexity and challenge of diagnosing and treating blood disorders, which require a deep understanding of the underlying biological mechanisms involved. Early in her career, she had the opportunity to work with blood cancer patients, which inspired her to pursue a career in hematology.

Dr. Ahmed is deeply committed to helping patients achieve the best possible outcomes through the use of the latest and most effective treatment options available. Her research interests involve quality and process improvements, care delivery with respect to CAR T therapy and increasing diversity in clinical trials. She is also actively involved in research aimed at improving outcomes for patients with blood cancers. She is excited to continue to explore new ways to treat blood cancers more effectively. One of the areas she is particularly passionate about is survivorship. As the medical director of the blood and marrow transplant survivorship program, she strives to identify and meet the unique challenges of our transplant and cell therapy survivors. This includes not only their physical health, but also their emotional well-being. She works closely with a multidisciplinary team to provide comprehensive care that supports survivors throughout their recovery journey, from monitoring for any long-term effects of treatment to helping them navigate the challenges of returning to normal life.

Ultimately, her goal as a hematologist is to be a source of support and guidance for patients and their families as they navigate the challenges of cancer diagnosis, treatment and survivorship. She believes that through compassionate care and a commitment to ongoing research, we can make a positive impact in the lives of those affected by blood disorders and help them achieve their best possible outcomes.

Dr. Ahmed completed her fellowship training at Tufts University/Baystate in Springfield, Massachusetts, where she gained a solid foundation in the diagnosis and treatment of blood cancers. Following her fellowship, she pursued an advanced fellowship in transplant and cellular therapy at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio, where she gained extensive experience in the use of stem cell transplantation and immune effector cell therapy.

In addition to her work as a hematologist/oncologist, she is also a devoted mother of 2 children. In her free time, she enjoys reading and spending time with her family. As a mom, she has learned a great deal about the importance of patience, perseverance and empathy.
