Tara L Lin, MD

Dr. Tara Lin is a board-certified medical oncologist focused on improving the outcomes for patients with acute leukemia. Her expertise in acute leukemia and novel therapies allows her to provide individualized, leading-edge treatment for each patient. She recognizes how overwhelming a new diagnosis of leukemia can be, and she is committed to providing information about standard of care and research opportunities in a patient-centered manner.

To summarize her philosophy of patient care, she says, "Every patient we see is an individual, and it's essential to consider the features of each patient's leukemia in the setting of their overall health when determining a treatment plan. Each person we take care of is someone's loved one, and in The University of Kansas Cancer Center’s acute leukemia program, each person is treated the same way we would want our own family members treated – with respect, honesty and the highest level of clinical care."

Dr. Lin completed a fellowship in medical oncology at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, and an additional 2-year post-doctoral fellowship at UCLA focused on acute leukemia stem cells. She also completed a master's degree in clinical research from Tulane University School of Public Health in New Orleans.

This training prepared her to be a clinical researcher with a focus on innovative treatments for patients with acute leukemia. Since joining The University of Kansas Cancer Center, she has been the local principal investigator on more than 45 clinical trials and has co-authored more than 70 manuscripts focused on leukemia and blood cancer treatments. She was selected as a member of the SWOG Leukemia Committee and has been an invited speaker at national meetings of the American Society of Hematology and American Society of Clinical Oncology.

In addition, Dr. Lin has served as the medical director for the cancer center’s Clinical Trials Office since 2017 and serves on the cancer center’s Leadership Council. She was selected for the Association of American Cancer Institutes Clinical Research Innovation Steering Committee, serving as committee chair from 2021-23.
